Preventive Care & Hygiene

Preventive Dentistry and hygiene focuses on maintaining oral health and preventing dental issues. It includes services like regular check-ups, dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, dental sealants, and oral hygiene education.

Dental Check-up & Assessment

Your dental check-up involves a thorough examination of your oral cavity, including an assessment of teeth, gums, oral tissues, and radiographic imaging (such as X-rays) when necessary. Through this evaluation, we can diagnose any existing dental issues, such as cavities or gum disease, and develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs, which may include preventive measures, restorative procedures, or referrals to specialists for more complex cases. Regular check-ups and proactive diagnosis, including the use of radiographic imaging, are essential for maintaining optimal oral health.

Dental cleaning & hygiene

Dental cleanings, also known as prophylaxis, are routine procedures performed by our registered dental hygienists to remove plaque, tartar, and stains from teeth. During a cleaning, the hygienist uses specialized instruments and may include tooth scaling, polishing, and sometimes fluoride treatment to maintain oral health and prevent gum disease and cavities. Regular dental cleanings, recommended every six months, help keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride treatments involve the application of a fluoride solution to the teeth, which helps strengthen tooth enamel and makes them more resistant to decay. This preventive dental measure is often recommended for both children and adults, especially those at higher risk of cavities.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the occlusal or chewing surfaces of molars and premolars to seal off crevices and prevent food and bacteria from getting trapped, reducing the risk of cavities in these hard-to-reach areas. Sealants are commonly recommended for children as part of their preventive dental care.

Restorative Dentistry

Restorative dentistry aims to repair damaged teeth and restore their function and appearance. Common services under this heading include dental fillings (such as tooth-colored or resin fillings), crowns, bridges, and root canal therapy.

Tooth Colored Restorations
  • Resin Fillings, commonly known as tooth-colored or composite fillings, blend with natural teeth and are used to repair small to moderate cavities. They offer a discreet and effective way to restore tooth structure.
  • CEREC Porcelain Fillings, also known as same-day or chairside ceramic fillings, are crafted and placed in a single dental appointment using computer-aided design and milling technology. They provide durable and aesthetically pleasing restorations for damaged teeth.

Crowns & Bridges

Dental crown and bridge options include porcelain crowns, ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, E-Max crowns, PFM (Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal) crowns, full-metal crowns, and bridges with various materials like porcelain, zirconia, ceramic, and metal alloys and frameworks. Crowns protect damaged teeth, while bridges replace missing teeth by connecting artificial ones to adjacent natural teeth or implants. E-Max single visit crowns and Zirconia crowns are advanced materials used for durable, esthetically pleasing restorations, with E-Max often allowing for same-day crown placement, enhancing your convenience.

Root Canal Therapy

Bacteria can get inside your tooth from tooth decay, a chipped or damaged tooth or filling, or gum infections which extend all the way to the root in a tooth. If the root of your tooth has become infected by bacteria you may experience spontaneous sharp or piercing pain or throbbing (especially when lying down), pain when biting or chewing, extreme sensitivity to hot or cold, persistent bad breath and discolouration from tooth decay. The pain associated with a root canal is caused by a build-up of pressure within the tooth. This pain can be controlled through the use of antibiotics before your treatment. Combining this method with current techniques and anesthetics means modern root canal therapy can be completely painless.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease Treatments

Periodontal dentistry focuses in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gum diseases (periodontal diseases), including gingivitis and periodontitis. It includes maintaining healthy gums and the supporting structures of teeth through procedures like deep cleanings (scaling and root planing), periodontal (gum) disease treatments, both surgical and non-surgical, as well as routine periodontal maintenance appointments to manage gum health.

Surgical Treatments

Surgical periodontal dental treatments involve procedures like gum surgery and flap surgery to treat advanced gum disease or correct gum-related issues. These surgeries aim to remove infected tissue, reshape the gums, or restore periodontal health, ultimately improving oral hygiene and preventing tooth loss.

STM (non-surgical) Periodontal Treatments

STM (non-surgical) periodontal treatments, often referred to as Scaling and Root Planing (SRP), are non-invasive procedures to manage early stages of gum disease. During these treatments, dental professionals remove tartar and plaque buildup from the tooth and root surfaces and smooth rough areas to promote gum tissue reattachment, reducing inflammation and improving overall gum health.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease Maintenance

Periodontal (gum) disease maintenance involves regular check-ups and cleanings by a dentist or periodontist to manage and control gum disease progression. It includes ongoing monitoring, plaque and tartar removal, and patient education on maintaining good oral hygiene practices to prevent the disease from worsening. These maintenance visits are crucial for preserving gum health and preventing tooth and bone loss.

Facial Swelling and Emergencies

Facial swelling can be a sign of dental emergencies, such as abscesses or severe infections in the mouth. These conditions can cause pain, difficulty swallowing, and fever. Seeking immediate dental care is crucial to address the underlying issue and prevent complications. Dentists can provide necessary treatments like antibiotics, drainage, or tooth extraction to alleviate pain and swelling, restoring oral health.

NightGuards

Dental nightguards are custom-fitted devices designed to protect teeth from grinding or clenching during sleep. They provide a cushioning barrier that helps prevent tooth damage and reduce jaw discomfort. Consult us for a proper assessment and to have a nightguard tailored to your needs.

TMJ (temporomandibular joint) Issues

TMJ (temporomandibular joint) issues involve problems with the jaw joint and surrounding muscles, leading to symptoms like jaw pain, clicking or popping sounds, headaches, and difficulty chewing or opening the mouth. These issues can result from various factors, including stress, teeth grinding, or misaligned jaws. Treatment options may include lifestyle changes, pain management, physical therapy, or dental interventions like splints or orthodontic work to alleviate symptoms and improve jaw function. Consulting a healthcare professional or dentist is essential for proper diagnosis and management of TMJ issues.

Been going to Dr Singh for over 30 years. He’s very patient and helpful. Angie is also super patient and attentive and helps me sort out plans if there is more intensive work needed. The whole facility is clean and the team is welcoming. Katie has been my hygienist for a long while too; she’s very thorough and makes a dentist visit less daunting than it is usually 🙂
