Serving Vaughan
Sedation dentistry, close to home
Nitrous oxide through to full IV sedation, administered by a dental anaesthesiologist on staff — for Vaughan patients, a short drive via Highway 407 or Highway 7.
If anxiety has kept you from the dentist, sedation is not an indulgence — it is the thing that makes necessary treatment possible. We would far rather sedate you than have you avoid care for another five years.
Sedation cases here are scheduled in advance with Dr. Stephen Ing, a dental anaesthesiologist and medical doctor on staff. The same person manages your case from start to finish rather than a different visiting contractor each time.
Two levels of sedation
Nitrous Oxide
Mild relaxation through a small nasal mask, taking effect in two to three minutes. You stay conscious and aware, recovery is immediate, and you can drive yourself home. Best for routine treatment and mild nervousness.
IV Sedation
Deep sedation with continuous monitoring of pulse oximetry, blood pressure, and ECG. Most patients have no memory of the procedure. You will need someone to drive you home. Best for implant surgery, extractions, and significant anxiety.
When sedation is recommended
- ✓ Dental phobia and significant anxiety
- ✓ Implant surgery and full-arch procedures
- ✓ Tooth extractions, including surgical and wisdom teeth
- ✓ Long or complex appointments where comfort affects the result
- ✓ A severe gag reflex that makes routine treatment difficult
What to expect
Is sedation safe? +
Yes. IV sedation is administered by a qualified dental anaesthesiologist who monitors your heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and breathing continuously throughout.
Will I remember the procedure? +
With IV sedation, most patients have little to no memory of it — it feels as though no time passed.
Can I drive afterwards? +
Not after IV sedation. You must arrange a driver. After nitrous oxide you can drive yourself home immediately.
Do I need to fast? +
Yes for IV sedation — six to eight hours, clear liquids only. Detailed instructions are provided when you schedule. No fasting is required for nitrous oxide.
What is recovery like? +
Most patients are alert within fifteen to twenty minutes after IV sedation ends, and resume normal activities the next day.
