Immediate Dental Implant Emergency: How We Replaced a Tooth in One Visit

Recently, a patient came to our office with a dental emergency. They had accidentally broken a front tooth and had an important event to attend on the same day. Naturally, they were extremely worried about having an exposed gap.

The tooth was fractured below the gum line, and the prognosis of saving the tooth was poor. Given these circumstances, the patient decided on the option of extracting the tooth and getting an immediate dental implant.

An immediate dental implant refers to a dental implant procedure where the implant is placed into the jawbone immediately after a tooth extraction, in the same appointment. This approach allows for the replacement of a missing tooth or teeth without the need for a waiting period between the extraction and implant placement.

Fortunately, at our office, we provide ‘teeth in a day’ solutions using computer-guided dental implants. Here’s how we made it happen:

We began by taking a 3D CBCT scan and a 3D intraoral scan. This technology allowed us to plan the optimal position for the implant even before extracting the tooth.

Using this digital blueprint, we immediately fabricated a surgical guide in our on-site digital dental laboratory.

While the guide was being made, we extracted the fractured tooth and added bone grafting material to the site to preserve bone. At that point, the custom-made guide was ready to be used to precisely place the implant in the optimal position from our planning.

Next, thanks to our Digital technology, we immediately fabricated a temporary crown and secured it to the abutment or connector on the implant. We checked the bite to ensure everything fit perfectly with no pressure or discomfort, and the patient was thrilled with the results! Once the implant is fully integrated, we will place the permanent crown.

All of this was achieved in a single visit using our digital technology and expertise. Our patient was able to attend his event without any pain or swelling, and a tooth in place thanks to our minimally invasive and efficient process.
