Tooth extractions made simple
From straightforward removals to complex surgical cases — performed with the gentlest approach available and a full range of sedation options.
Extraction is always the last option we consider, not the first. Where a tooth can reasonably be saved with a root canal, a crown, or periodontal treatment, that is what we will recommend.
But some teeth genuinely cannot be saved, and prolonging that decision usually costs bone that would have supported a replacement.
Simple versus surgical
Simple Extraction
For a tooth that is fully erupted and visible. The tooth is loosened and removed through the socket, usually under local anesthesia alone, in a straightforward appointment.
Surgical Extraction
For teeth that are impacted, broken at the gumline, or otherwise complex. Access is created through the gum and sometimes a small amount of bone, and the tooth may be sectioned to remove it without damaging surrounding structures.
Comfort during and afterwards
Both types are performed under local anesthesia, and sedation is available at every level — nitrous oxide for mild anxiety, through to full IV sedation administered by our staff dental anaesthesiologist for complex or lengthy cases.
Afterwards, following the aftercare instructions matters more than most patients expect. Dry socket, the most common complication, is largely preventable by avoiding smoking, straws, and vigorous rinsing in the first few days.
Think about replacement now, not later
The bone that held a tooth begins resorbing within weeks of its removal. Socket preservation — a small graft placed at the time of extraction — costs relatively little and protects the site for a future implant.
It is far cheaper than rebuilding the ridge in three years' time, and it is a decision that has to be made on the day.
