Chipped tooth repair
Three repair options depending on how much tooth was lost — all shade-matched to blend with your smile.
Severity ranges considerably. A minor chip affecting only enamel is a cosmetic issue you could reasonably leave alone. A deeper chip exposing dentine will be sensitive and will decay faster. One reaching the nerve is a different problem entirely.
Which repair you need depends on which of those you have — and that is not always obvious from looking at it.
Your repair options
Dental Bonding — fast and conservative
Tooth-coloured composite resin applied to small chips, completed in a single 30 to 60 minute appointment. Usually no drilling and no anesthetic, and the most affordable option available.
Porcelain Veneers
Covering the entire front surface of the tooth, recommended where the chip is highly visible or where several front teeth need harmonising. Superior esthetics, lasting ten to fifteen years and beyond.
Dental Crowns
The strongest option, for large chips or significant structural damage. The crown encases the tooth completely, with a lifespan of ten years and up.
Do not wait on a chip that is sensitive
Sensitivity means dentine is exposed. Dentine is considerably softer than enamel and decays much faster, so an uncovered chip tends to get worse rather than stay stable.
A repair now is bonding. The same tooth left for a year may need a crown.
