A patient journey: single guided implant

From extraction to final restoration — how computer-guided surgery and 3D planning produce a predictable, comfortable outcome.

Five stages

Initial consultation & assessment

The patient presented with a lower premolar that had been failing for several years despite previous root canal therapy and a crown. A vertical root fracture rendered it non-restorable. A 3D CBCT scan evaluated bone volume at the site and confirmed adequate bone for placement without grafting.

Planning

With the scan in hand, the implant position, angle, and depth were planned digitally against the shape of the final crown — so the restoration determined the implant position rather than the other way round.

Extraction & placement

The fractured tooth was removed and the implant placed using a surgical guide, transferring the digital plan precisely. Local anesthesia, with sedation available.

Integration

Several months of healing while the implant fused with the bone, with a provisional restoration maintaining appearance and function throughout.

Final restoration

A digital scan captured the integrated implant position, and the crown was designed and milled in our in-house lab, then fitted and adjusted.

Why this case was straightforward

It was straightforward because the scan showed adequate bone, which meant no grafting phase and a shorter overall timeline.

That is worth stating plainly: not every case runs this cleanly. Where bone is deficient, a grafting stage adds three to six months before placement can even begin. The scan is what tells us which situation you are in — before any commitment is made.
