Sedation Options
Three levels of sedation for your comfort
Nitrous Oxide
A mild sedative inhaled through a mask during the procedure. Patients remain fully conscious but feel relaxed and calm.
The effects wear off within minutes, and patients can drive themselves home. Perfect for patients with mild to moderate anxiety.
Nitrous oxide works by increasing blood oxygen levels and activating pain-relief pathways in the brain, creating a gentle anxiolytic effect without systemic absorption.
Your dentist can adjust the concentration throughout the procedure to maintain your ideal comfort level while keeping you responsive to verbal communication.
IV Sedation
Administered intravenously by one of our dental anaesthetists — a dental anesthesiologist (MD) — IV sedation provides the deepest level of sedation available in an outpatient dental setting.
Patients are in a state of deep relaxation and typically have no memory of the procedure. Available for any treatment, from a single implant to full-arch rehabilitation.
Our dental anaesthetist maintains continuous real-time monitoring of your blood pressure, oxygen saturation, heart rate, and CO2 levels throughout the procedure using advanced clinical instrumentation.
IV sedation is particularly valuable for complex cases like sinus lifts or All-on-6 implants where treatment time extends beyond typical appointments and anxiety management is critical to clinical success.
Why Choose Vitality for Sedation
A dental anesthesiologist on your clinical team
Having a dental anesthesiologist administer IV sedation on-site is a significant differentiator. Dr. Raj Singh and the clinical team can focus entirely on the dental procedure while our dental anaesthetist manages sedation and monitors the patient throughout — a level of care that is uncommon in a dental office.
For patients who have been avoiding dental care due to anxiety, sedation makes it possible to address overdue treatment in comfort and without distress. Whether you're a North York resident seeking your first implant or someone who has postponed care for years, we're here to make it comfortable.

Get the facts about sedation dentistry
Yes, sedation dentistry is very safe when administered by trained professionals in a clinical setting with proper monitoring. One of our dental anaesthetists is a dental anesthesiologist with advanced training in sedation and general anesthesia. All safety protocols are followed.
With IV sedation, you will be deeply relaxed but not completely asleep in the traditional sense. You may drift in and out of consciousness, and most patients have little to no memory of the procedure — which is why they often report it felt like 'no time had passed.'
No. After IV sedation, you must arrange for someone to drive you home. You cannot drive, operate machinery, or make important decisions for the rest of the day. Nitrous oxide wears off quickly, and patients can typically drive after a short recovery period.
You'll receive pre-operative instructions, which typically include: fasting for 6-8 hours before your appointment, avoiding alcohol the night before, arranging transportation home, and wearing comfortable clothing. Our dental anaesthetist will review your medical history and current medications.
No. Local anesthesia is used in combination with sedation to ensure you experience no pain. You may feel pressure or vibration, but discomfort is eliminated. After the procedure, mild soreness is normal and managed with medication.
