What Causes Facial Collapse
The bone loss behind visible aging
The jawbone maintains itself through the forces transmitted by tooth roots during chewing. When teeth are lost, that stimulation stops and the bone begins to resorb. Conventional dentures rest on the gum—they do not transmit force into the bone.
Over years of denture wear, the ridge narrows and shrinks, and the facial structure follows. The lower face shortens, the chin rotates forward, the lips lose support and thin, and the cheeks hollow. This is not rapid—it develops gradually over years and decades. But by the time it becomes visually apparent, significant bone has already been lost.
